Staples are carbohydrate foods which generally provide bulk in diet. They are fairly cheap  and available throughout the year. They are easy to prepare and will in most cases require a sauce or stew for accompaniment.
The most common method of preparation is steaming. This is done by placing  food in a pan prepared for steaming using banana leaves and stalks.
To prepare a pan for steaming food
1.    Choose mature banana leaves. The size will depend  on the pan to be used and the amount of food to be prepared. In a small pan use small leaves and leave the big leaves for big bulk foods. The minimum number of leaves are five but  more are better to ensure proper preservation of steam. Traditionally steamed food is served wrapped in cooked banana leaves.
